Two weeks ago I wrote about the York Women Mean Business Awards. Being a freelancer, it was the first big date in my calendar for a while. The evening of ladies-only networking, prosecco and great food didn’t disappoint.

I arrived anticipating being shortlisted for the Business Support and Services category, however the judging panel reassessed the criteria, and renamed the categories as more appropriate to the businesses in YWMB group. Therefore, on the night, I had the honour of being a finalist for Best Brand. This is a delightful recognition of my branding skills as a designer.

While I didn’t scoop any trophies, we all went home with a goody bag (or two!). It was a pleasure to stand shoulder to shoulder with the other shortlistees in my category – all entrepreneurs I respect, have had meetings with or have been a client of.

The remarkable thing about the evening is that it proved that men don’t need to be involved in every area of business. The poor men who did end up in the room that night were the DJ, a photographer and the bar staff. At least they wouldn’t have had to queue for the toilets.

A massive thanks to Tracy Burleigh, the queen of York Women Mean Business, congratulations to the winners, and I am going to spend the next 365 days looking forward to neat year! Here are a few photos from the night.

If you’ve been inspired to work with me, please get in touch grace[at] and tell me about your new project.
