Thursday March 8th was an evening where creative types in York had a few options for their cultural endeavours. It was International Womens’ Day for starters. York Official City of Festivals™ made it a week long affair. Caboodle magazine hosted a creative networking and zine-making event, Catholicism and the Arts York had their third seminar and Brewdog were giving away pink beer (of course they were). This was the night of all nights I decided to invite people with Instagram grids I like to the pub.
The Facebook page said eight going and 30 interested. A reliable interpretation of that seven might show up at some point, and 30 others will be drinking pink IPA on Micklegate. I told the Eagle & Child staff to expect 15, thinking that I was being optimistic. That would have been fine. Instead 21 of York’s finest creative bods showed up. 21! We filled the room nicely.
I got to meet a host of folks, some starting out as freelancers, others were more established creatives. Drinks and conversation flowed, and I only interrupted everyone for a moment to say hello, thank them for showing their faces, and for short introductions.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, so I’ve decided to do another. The details are:
Date: Thursday 7th June 2018.
Venue: The Eagle & Child, High Petergate, York. If it’s good weather, find us in the beer garden.
Time: 1800 onwards.
Who is it for?: York-based graphic designers and illustrators.
RSVP: On the Facebook event here.
Once again, there will be no ulterior motives, no recruiters and no clients.
